5. Legal Bases for Processing
Where a legal basis is required, Concordia College processes personal information based on one or more of the following: legitimate institutional interests, performance of a contract or requested service, compliance with legal obligations, protection of vital interests, performance of a task carried out in the public interest where applicable, and consent when consent is required or requested.
6. How We Share Information
Concordia College does not sell personal information for money. We may share information with service providers, institutional partners, and third parties when needed to operate our websites, deliver services, communicate with constituents, process transactions, measure performance, comply with legal obligations, or protect college systems and community members.
Service providers
We share information with vendors and service providers that support website hosting, analytics, email delivery, enrollment systems, event registration, payment processing, advertising, security, customer support, donor relations, and related college operations. These providers are expected to use information only to provide services to Concordia College or as otherwise permitted by law and contract.
Required disclosures
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, legal process, regulatory request, or when we have a good faith belief that disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, security, property, or the integrity of college operations.
Advertising and analytics sharing
Some privacy laws define “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” broadly enough to include certain uses of advertising cookies, pixels, or similar technologies. To the extent those definitions apply, you may opt out as described in the “Your Privacy Choices and Rights” section below.
7. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
Depending on your location and relationship with Concordia College, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of certain personal information. You may also have the right to object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, opt out of marketing communications, opt out of certain targeted advertising or sharing, and appeal a decision regarding a privacy request where applicable.
To make a privacy request, contact Concordia College using the contact information at the end of this policy. We may need to verify your identity and your relationship to the information requested before completing a request. Some information may be retained when required for legal, accreditation, audit, security, financial, academic record, or institutional purposes.
Marketing communication choices
You may opt out of most promotional email communications by using the unsubscribe link in the email or by contacting us. Some communications, including transactional, safety, student, employment, financial, legal, or operational notices, may not include an opt-out option.
Cookie and tracking choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking or deleting cookies may affect how some website features work. Concordia College is also working to provide a website cookie preference tool that allows visitors to manage non-essential analytics and advertising technologies where required.
‘Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information’
Concordia College does not sell personal information for money. Because some laws may treat certain advertising pixels, cookies, or similar technologies as “sharing” or “sale,” you may request to opt out of such uses by contacting webmaster@cord.edu with the subject line “Privacy Opt Out” or by using the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link once posted on the website footer.
Global Privacy Control
Global Privacy Control, or GPC, is a browser-based signal that communicates a user’s privacy preference. Concordia College is working to configure its websites to recognize GPC signals where required by applicable law. Until that configuration is complete, users may submit privacy opt-out requests using the contact information in this policy.
8. Children and Minors
Concordia College websites are intended for prospective students, students, alumni, donors, employees, families, and general audiences. They are not directed to children under age 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under age 13 through our general websites without appropriate consent. If you believe a child under age 13 has provided personal information to Concordia College through our websites, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
Some Concordia College programs, events, admissions activities, dual enrollment activities, or outreach efforts may involve high school students or other minors. When we collect information from minors in those contexts, we use it for the purpose for which it was provided, such as responding to an inquiry, processing a registration, supporting an application, communicating with families, or meeting legal and institutional obligations.
9. Data Security
Concordia College uses administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. These safeguards may include access controls, encryption where appropriate, secure authentication, monitoring, staff training, vendor review, and other measures intended to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss.
No website, email system, or online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should take care when submitting information online and should not submit sensitive personal information through search bars, general feedback forms, or other fields not specifically intended for that purpose.
10. Data Retention
Concordia College retains personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, support institutional operations, maintain records, comply with legal, accreditation, audit, reporting, financial, and contractual obligations, resolve disputes, and protect College rights and systems. Retention periods vary by record type and relationship to the College.
11. Links to Other Websites and Services
Concordia College websites may link to websites, tools, or services operated by third parties. This policy does not apply to websites or services that Concordia College does not operate or control. We encourage users to review the privacy notices of any third-party website or service they use.
